Services are typically 90 minutes long and include some singing (feel free to sit, stand, clap, sing along, or just sit and listen), a short prayer time and a Bible-based message taught by one of our pastors.

Before the message begins, children are invited downstairs to Kid’s Place. There is a supervised nursery located upstairs for toddlers and a room off the foyer for nursing mothers and their babies to enjoy the service.

We do worship through giving (take an offering) each Sunday and once a month we celebrate communion, but this is for our regular attendees only. Guests are certainly welcome to enjoy the entire service and should not feel pressured to participate.

Come dressed as you feel comfortable – generally speaking, if you are at ease wearing an outfit in public, then you’ll be comfortable wearing it here.

We are a multi-generational group and hope that you can find a home here!

Mike Nishi – Lead Pastor

Family: I am married to my wonderful wife Anita and we have one daughter, Faith, who is 2 years old.

Interests: I love fishing! Anytime, anyplace, if I can fish I will. I also love martial arts, playing hockey and golf, going camping, books and the arts. I try to learn a new musical instrument every few years and I love to paint.

Heroes and Mentors: I wouldn’t say I have heroes in my life, but I do have people I look up to and respect greatly. I do have a few mentors - godly men who over the years have helped me to grow and speak into my life at times when I really need guidance.

Favourite Books & Magazines: Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala and Dean Merrill, Calvin and Hobbs, What’s So Amazing about Grace? by Philip Yancey, Field and Stream and BC Outdoors magazines. Authors that have caught my attention over the years have been from a variety of genres - from Tolkien, Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Edgar Allan Poe and Kafka to Francis Schafer, Oswald Chambers and John Maxwell.

On my iPod: Currently: Starfield, Police and Jaco Pastorius.

Pet Peeves: Bad drivers, waking up and going to sleep, people who say they will eat anywhere and then when you suggest a place they say, “Oh but not that... I had that yesterday.”

Careers (past and present):
1. Pastor
2. Graphic Designer
3. As a kid, Stock Clerk and Golf Shop

Education: Northwest Baptist Theological College, BCIT, VCC

Something people don’t know about me: Even though I am Japanese-Canadian... I don’t like shellfish.

Why I’m excited about South Hill church: I have always dreamed of a church that would be open to a multi-ethnic city... where we could gather under one culture... not of ethnicity, but of Jesus. A place where blended families, couples who are dating cross-culturally and those who are of blended ethnicity could feel comfortable being together, sensitive towards each others’ differences, and yet be unified under a vision to live out the grace, forgiveness, and love of Jesus. I pray that South Hill would be a place of healing, second chances, and hope... but most of all a community where people can feel like they belong and can make a difference.
